  1. George Couch was a good friend of my father’s, James Cavender. They stayed in touch and visited one another for the remainder of their lives after the war. I noticed that there was not a lot of information for him and I wanted to share his obituary.

George W. Couch, 81, resident of Wheeling, WV., died Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at Peterson Rehabilitation Hospital and Geriatric Center. He was born September 23, 1925 in Beech Bottom, WV., the son of the late George K. and Bertha Young Couch. George was a member of the Teamsters; a retired drive with Town and Country Dairy; he worked for the Wheeling Park Commission in golf course maintenance. He was a US Marine Corps veteran of WWII. He was a Christian. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Irene Adams Couch; a son, George Bruce Couch; several brothers and sisters. Surviving are his children, Shawn William Couch of Fort St. Lucie, Fl., and Lori McGlumphy and her husband, Steve of Wheeling, WV.; brothers, Jim Couch of Idaho and Dean Couch of Beech Bottom, WV.; a sister, Nora Somerville of Wheeling; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Friday, January 19, 2007 from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. at the Kepner Funeral Home, Burke Chapel, 2101 Warwood Ave, Wheeling with Reverend Glen Baker officiating.
