Lloyd Arnold began his service in the Marine Corps at MCRD San Diego in early 1944. He trained as an aviation mechanic, and spent nearly a year – from the summer of 1944 through the summer of 1945 – as a ground-pounder for VMF-214, based out of California.
For unknown reasons, Arnold was sent to the 69th Replacement Draft, and then on to Hawaii, where he joined Company B, 24th Marines. He spent a few weeks in the field learning to operate a machine gun – and then the war ended.
Private Arnold joined the 18th Service Battalion when his regiment disbanded, and was discharged from Maintenance Company, 6th Service Depot in 1946 with the rank of Private First Class.
No further details of his life are known.
