Thaddeus was drafted into the Marine Corps in December, 1943. He trained as an aircraft mechanic in Miranmar, California, and worked in the engine repair shop of the Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro until the fall of 1945. For unknown reasons, he was transferred to the Fleet Marine Force and became a member of Company B, 24th Marines. PFC Anuszkiewicz was learning to fight as a rifleman when the war ended – he was with Baker Company for only a few weeks.
When the regiment disbanded, Anuszkiewicz was transferred to the 9th MP Battalion, and served with them until his honorable discharge as a corporal in July, 1946.
