Before joining battalion

Boot camp at Parris Island with First Recruit Battalion; outposted to Fourth Training Battalion at Camp Lejeune, NC, for advanced infantry training. Assigned to 17th Replacement Draft for transit overseas. Joined Charlie Company, First Battalion, 24th Marines at Camp Maui on 22 November 1944.

March 2, 1945 – wounded in action (shell shock/combat fatigue); evacuated to USS Fremont.

Citation

Private Casimir J. Pucinik was a member of our machine gun plaoon and waws wounded and evac on 2 March 1945. Private Pucinik returned to my squad on 6 March, and on 7 March was killed by mortar fire. I saw Private Pucinik when he was hit, and saw him examined by a company corpsman and pronounced dead.
