Major Robert N. Fricke of 1/24th Marines reports to the regimental commander, Colonel Franklin Hart, during the battle of Saipan.

Operations of the First Battalion, 24th Marines.

The Operations Officer led the “3-Section” of Battalion Headquarters. He was responsible for planning and overseeing all training activities when the unit was in camp. In combat, he compiled reports on the ongoing situation, drafted and issued orders on behalf of the commanding officer, and “continually studies the situation so as to be ready for emergencies and future operations.”

A succession of “Bn-3s” kept the First Battalion, 24th Marines at peak form from training camps in North Carolina, California, and Maui, and operating with deadly efficiency on battlegrounds from Namur to Iwo Jima.
