Uniforms of the First Battalion

Dog Company Marines in their Winter Service ("forest green") uniforms, 1943.
The uniforms are swell, look good and feel wonderful. And cost like Hell! You never saw so many charges, supercharges, extra bits of equipment that you have to get – and aside from my one luxury of the Sam Browne [I] have gotten the littlest amount and the cheapest – still, I think I’m going to spend about $350 before I’m through.

George Polus Asack, Jr.

Corporal Asack served with Baker Company from September 1, 1943 to June 17, 1944, when he was badly wounded by shrapnel on Saipan. He received a disability discharge in January 1945. Note that this blouse has a V Amphibious Corps patch, rather than the Fourth Marine Division insignia; this may have been issued while Asack was convalescing in Hawaii.
