Service & Campaigns
Enlisted at Nashville, TN, on 7 January 1941; boot camp at Parris Island with Third Recruit Battalion. Additional instruction at the Training Center, MCB Quantico, through October 1941, at which time transferred to the Third Defense Battalion, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii for duty with 3-inch antiaircraft group.
December 7, 1941 – participated in battle of Pearl Harbor.
Placed on temporary duty with First Defense Battalion at Johnston Island through spring of 1943. Returned to California in April 1943 for infantry training at TC Camp Elliott through August 1943.
Joined Baker Company, First Battalion, 24th Marines at Pearl Harbor on 25 August 1943.
