Service & Campaigns
Before joining battalion

Boot camp at Parris Island; outposted to Navy Yard, Washington DC, on 3 August 1940, for duty through late 1941. Reassigned to Marine Detachment, American Embassy, London, through 31 October 1942. Returned to United States early 1943 via Naval Operating Base Rosneath, Scotland.

Joined Able Company, First Separate Battalion (Reinforced) at New River, NC, on 3 February 1943.

Battalion Service 1943

Transferred to Headquarters Company on 10 May 1943 for duty with battalion intelligence section at Camp Pendleton, CA.

Admitted to US Naval Hospital at Camp Pendleton on 10 November 1943. Dropped from battalion muster rolls on 3 December 1943 for continuing treatment.

Assigned to MP Company, Camp Pendleton, for duty on 14 January 1944.

Battalion Service 1944

On 12 July 1944, rejoined Headquarters Company, First Battalion, 24th Marines at Camp Maui from the 3rd Provisional Marine Detachment. Assigned to the intelligence section.

Rear echelon during battles of Saipan and Tinian.

Campaign Narrative

After leaving battalion

On 16 October 1945, transferred to R&R Center San Diego for next assignment.
