Service & Campaigns
Before joining battalion

Boot camp at MCRD San Diego with First Recruit Battalion. Outposted to Fourth Replacement Draft for transit overseas. Brief duty with Service Battalion, Transient Center, FMFPAC in Hawaii before transfer to Baker Company, First Battalion, 24th Marines at Camp Maui on 19 September 1944.

Campaign Narrative

After leaving battalion

Transferred to Fourth Separate Headquarters & Service Battalion on 4 October 1945. Subsequent duty with 6th Service Depot through early 1946.

Gonzales served at a succession of posts, including 
 Marine Barracks NATB Corpus Christi (Texas), Naval Submarine Base Key West (Florida), Basic School Detachment Quantico, the 22nd Marines (in Virginia), Camp Lejeune, MCAS Miami, the Second Tank Battalion (at Lejeune) and Camp Pendleton. He also went overseas during the Korean War with  the 1st Marine Division MP company from 1952-1953.

He last appears on available muster rolls in October 1958 as a sergeant with Company C (Reinforced), 7th Engineer Battalion, Fleet Marine Force, on Okinawa.

Citation

Post-War Life

According to a post in “Dolphin Talk”:

“Following his service, Mr. Gonzales graduated from Culinary Arts of America and went on to become a corporate executive chef, traveling the country and world in that capacity for 25 years.”

Dave died on July 18, 2024, and is buried in Houston National Cemetery, Houston, Texas.
