Inducted into service at San Francisco, CA, on 17 May 1943. Boot camp at MCRD San Diego; outposted to Infantry Battalion, Camp Elliott, for advanced training. Assigned to Dog Company, First Battalion, 24th Marines at Camp Pendleton, California, on 27 August 1943.

Campaign Narrative

Tinian – not present

Did not participate in Tinian campaign due to wounds.

Arrived at US Fleet Hospital #108, Guadalcanal, on 26 June 1944. Under treatment until 7 July 1944, at which time transferred to Fleet Hospital #107 at Noumea, New Caledonia. Under treatment through unknown date.

Rejoined Baker Company, First Battalion, 24th Marines at Camp Maui on 4 October 1944.

 

Iwo Jima

Important Events:
February 25, 1945 – wounded in action (gunshot, right shoulder, for second time); evacuated to USS Ozark.

Campaign Narrative

After leaving battalion

Admitted to US Army Station Hospital #369 at Saipan, 28 February 1945. Under treatment through 22 March 1945, at which time returned to United States aboard USS Highlands. Admitted US Naval Hospital, San Diego, on 5 April 1945.

Recommended for discharge as result of medical survey. Honorably discharged on 25 July 1945.
