Boot camp at USNTS Great Lakes; outposted to station Hospital Corps School on 16 October 1943. Graduated and rated Hospital Apprentice Second Class on 26 November 1943; assigned duty at US Naval Hospital, San Diego.
Transferred to Field Medical School at Camp Elliott, California, spring of 1944. Assigned to 62nd Replacement Battalion for transit overseas on 6 June 1944; joined H&S Company, Fourth Medical Battalion on 19 July. Reassigned to Headquarters Company, First Battalion, 24th Marines at Camp Maui on 6 September 1944.
