Service & Campaigns
Enlisted March 1942 at Washington, DC, and placed on inactive duty with Platoon Leaders’ Unit, First Reserve District. Called to active duty after college graduation, assigned to Company H, Officer Candidates’ Class at Quantico, Virginia. Commissioned as second lieutenant on 26 September 1942; attended Twelfth Reserve Officers’ Class at Quantico, Virginia.
Joined Charlie Company, First Separate Battalion (Reinforced) at New River, North Carolina, on 12 December 1942.

July 24, 1944 – wounded in action during landing operations; a Japanese machine gun bullet ricocheted and cut his forehead. Evacuated to field hospital on Saipan
August 2, 1944 – returned to duty. Led mop-up patrol accounting for 21 Japanese in a few hours.

March 2, 1945 – appointed Headquarters Company CO, replacing Captain Roy F. Klopfenstine.
Transferred to Headquarters and Service Company, 24th Marines, on 26 March 1945. Promoted to Captain; assigned duty as assistant S-1 (personnel officer). Assumed permanent role as regimental S-1 June 1945.
Placed on inactive reserve list late 1945. On rolls of General Service Unit, First Marine Corps Reserve District, Boston, MA, and 12th Marine Corps Reserve District, San Francisco, CA. Last appears on muster rolls April 1956, with rank of major. Retired as a colonel.
