Service & Campaigns
Stanley served in the National Guard from 7 February 1938 – 15 September 1940 (inactive) and 16 September 1940 – 6 February 1941 (Federal) as “Stanley J. Mickalski.” Discharged as sergeant with character “Excellent.”
Enlisted USMC on 14 July 1942. Boot camp at Parris Island; ouposted to Recruit Depot headquarters for duty as drill instructor through April 1944. Advanced in rank to platoon sergeant.
On 25 April 1944, transferred to Camp Lejeune and assigned to 29th Marines. Detached in July 1944 to attend Infantry Leaders School, Camp Lejeune. Transferred to 31st Replacement Draft in October 1944; to 36th Replacement Draft January 1945; to 30th Replacement Battalion March 1945.
Joined Charlie Company, First Battalion, 24th Marines at Camp Maui on 25 March 1945.

Important Events:
While on a night training problem on 2 July 1945, an equipment failure injured several Charlie Company Marines scaling a fifty-foot cliff and left several others stranded. Platoon Sergeant Michaluk went to assist, and accidentally fell from the top of the cliff, suffering a fatal skull fracture.
On 5 July 1945, buried in Plot 30, Row 1, Grave 4, US Army Cemetery, Makawao, Maui.
