Before joining battalion

Boot camp at MCRD San Diego with Seventh Recruit Battalion. Outposted to Company E, Infantry Battalion, Training Center Camp Elliott for instruction as anti-tank gunner. Assigned to 24th Replacement Draft for deployment overseas attached to the Fourth Marine Division.

Joined Charlie Company, First Battalion, 24th Marines as a battle replacement on Iwo Jima.

Campaign Narrative

After leaving battalion

On 8 April 1945, transferred to Regimental Weapons Company, 24th Marines at Camp Maui. Duty with RW/24 through October 1945, at which time transferred to Ordnance Company, Sixth Service Depot, Oahu.

In January 1946, admitted US Naval Hospital Oakland, California, for treatment. Transferred to Marine Barracks, Naval Proving Ground Dahlgren, Virginia, 26 April 1946. Honorably discharged on 7 June 1946.

Wallace died on August 18, 1977, and is buried in Oaklawn-Pleasant View Cemetery, Whitley County, Kentucky
