Stories from the First Battalion.
Nobody can tell the stories of the First Battalion better than the veterans.
Whether talking to combat correspondents while the battles raged, writing their own personal memoirs, or reminiscing to interviewers many decades later, the veterans tried to explain the unexplainable as plainly as they could, with fascinating results.

My father John J Zink was a survivor of the 4th Marines C company Iwo Jima campaign. I have a Japanese battle flag (like the ones pictured) my father returned with as a souvenir. He never really talked about it ..
It’s very emotional watching the videos of these men telling their stories.
My Father Harvey E. Williams spoke of your father John Zink a few times. They were according to my Dad pretty good friends before and during the Iwo Jima operations. Although I was very young at the time, I do remember meeting your Dad one time at the Dunkin’ Donuts in Latham, NY. That was a very long time ago.
