Service & Campaigns
Before joining battalion

Enlisted March 1942 at Worcester, MA, and placed on inactive duty with Platoon Leaders’ Unit, First Reserve District. Called to active duty after college graduation, assigned to Company I, Officer Candidates’ Class at Quantico, Virginia. Commissioned as second lieutenant on 26 September 1942; attended Twelfth Reserve Officers’ Class at Quantico, Virginia.

Joined Charlie Company, First Separate Battalion (Reinforced) at New River, North Carolina, on 12 December 1942.

Stateside training – no combat

Kretowicz served as a platoon leader in C/1/24th Marines at Marine Corps Base New River and Marine Corps Base Joseph H. Pendleton. On 28 October 1943, he was transferred to MCB San Diego for further transit to V Amphibious Corps headquarters.

After leaving battalion

Served as the Athletic and Morale Officer at Transient Center, Fleet Marine Force Pacific headquarters, organizing athletic events for the 14th Naval District in Hawaii.

Returned to United States in October 1945; detached for terminal leave on 29 October. Placed on inactive duty status on 15 January 1945, with rank of captain..

Adam died on November 19, 2001, and is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown, New Jersey
