I commanded 4th Engineer Battalion (now 4th Combat Engineer Bn), 4th Marine Division in the Iraq War (2001-2004). I had the privilege of meeting most of the remaining WW2 vets of Carrol’s unit from Roi-Namur, Saipan, Tinian & Iwo Jima. Great reunions. He was loved & respected.
