Service & Campaigns
Before joining battalion

Boot camp at Parris Island with Second Recruit Battalion. Outposted to Marine Barracks, Submarine Base, New London, Connecticut. To Barracks Detachment, Washington DC, October 1941.

Overseas duty with Marine Detachment, American Embassy, London starting in late 1941; promoted to PFC on 1 January 1942. Spent approximately one year in London, then transferred to Naval Operating Base Rosneath, Scotland, for further transfer to Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia.

With First Battalion

Joined Company C, First Separate Battalion (Reinforced) on 23 February 1943.

Transferred to HQ Company, First Battalion on 10 May 1943.

Training at Camp Pendleton (unknown specialty/MOS) for remainder of 1943.

Transferred to MCB San Diego for Sea School on 24 December 1943.

After leaving battalion

Completed Sea School; posted to Company B, Marine Barracks, Navy Yard Pearl Harbor in early 1944.

Joined Marine detachment aboard USS North Carolina (BB-55). Participated in action in the Mariana Islands, Palau, Luzon, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa as an anti-aircraft gunner. Attained rank of sergeant.

Transferred from North Carolina to Marine Barracks, Navy Yard Boston on 29 October 1945, for discharge from service.
