Enlisted 30 April 1943 at Boston, Massachusetts. Boot camp at Parris Island with 5th Recruit Battalion; outposted to depot headquarters for duty as a drill instructor from May to August 1943.
Joined Baker Company, First Battalion, 24th Marines at Camp Pendleton, California, on 1 September 1943.

Important Events:
June 17, 1944 – wounded in action (shell fragment, right shoulder); evacuated to USS Cambria.
Transferred to USS Sheridan on 25 June 1944 for transportation to US Naval Hospital #10 (Aiea Heights, Hawaii); admitted 3 July 1944. Diagnosed with paralysis of right brachial plexus. Transferred to US Naval Hospital Shoemaker, California in October 1944. Medical survey of 12 December 1944 recommended discharge from service.
Honorably discharged on 10 January 1945.
