Before joining battalion

Boot camp at Parris Island; outposted to King Company, Third Battalion, 23rd Marines at New River, NC. Transferred to Fox Company, Second Battalion (Pioneers), 20th Marines on 3 April 1943; to Dog Company, 2/20th Marines summer 1943.

Participated in the battles of Roi-Namur, (Private First Class, Tool Repairman MOS 240) Saipan, and Tinian (Private First Class, Rifleman MOS 745).

Battalion disbanded September 1944; joined Charlie Company, First Battalion, 24th Marines at Camp Maui on 20 September 1944.
