Service & Campaigns
Boot camp at MCRD San Diego with Sixth Recruit Battalion. Assigned to Easy Company, Second Battalion (Pioneers), 20th Marines at Camp Pendleton.
On 6 January 1944, promoted to PFC and designated part of the company rear echelon. Rejoined company at Camp Maui, Hawaii, after their return from Marshall Islands. In spring 1944, temporary duty with Fourth Motor Transport Battalion as gas station attendant.
From 15 June through 5 August 1944, participated in the campaigns for Saipan and Tinian. Private first class; primary MOS 745 (Rifleman).
Transferred following regimental reorganization in fall of 1944; assigned to Able Company, First Battalion, 24th Marines on 20 September 1944.
