Before joining battalion

Enlisted 4 March 1943 in Charleston, West Virginia. Boot camp at Parris Island; outposted to Reserve Officers’ Class, Marine Corps Base Quantico, for duty as a messman. Transferred to Fourth Marine Division, fall 1943.

Joined Baker Company, First Battalion, 24th Marines at Camp Pendleton, California, on 8 September 1943.

Important Events:
February 2, 1944 – wounded in action (gunshot, right thigh); evacuated to USS Bolivar.

Campaign Narrative

After leaving battalion

Admitted to US Naval Hospital #10 (Aiea Heights) on 26 June 1944. Under treatment through 9 August 1944; discharged from hospital and transferred to Service Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Served with Maintenance and Repair section, Camp Lejeune, through November 1945.
Honorably discharged on 11 November 1945.
