Before joining battalion

Boot camp at Parris Island with Fourth Recruit Battalion. Outposted to Marine Barracks, Navy Yard Washington DC, on 14 February 1940.

Duty with MB Guard Company through July, 1942; advanced in rank to Sergeant. At Naval Air Station Anacostia as NCO in charge, January 1943.

Transferred to Company B, First Separate Battalion (Reinforced) on 3 February 1943.

Important Events:
February 1, 1944 – killed in action (blast concussion & shrapnel); exact circumstances unknown.

Note:
while Sergeant Drumright’s official date of death is February 1, battalion muster rolls state February 2. He may have been killed in the early morning banzai attack that hit Baker Company on the last day of the battle.
