Boot camp at Parris Island; outposted to Camp Lejeune, NC, on 25 January 1944. Assigned to 57th Replacement Battalion on 1 April 1944 for transit to Pacific; joined Replacement Battalion, Transient Center, V Amphibious Corps. Duty with Third Provisional Marine Detachment at Camp Maui from May – September 1944.

Joined Able Company, First Battalion, 24th Marines on 20 September 1944.
