Phil Wood's Letters

Letter #47
This Damn V-Mail

To Margretta & Gretchen
2 March 1944

2 March[1]

Dear Girls,

Our airmails have been restricted to one a week, so you’ll have to expect this damn V-Mail I guess. Nothing much is happening here – we are really resting. I think the Marine Corps is cracking up. Almost no training – the officers have a lot of organizational work to do, but luckily the men can spend their time on athletics and fixing up their tents. It won’t last long – it can’t. I’m getting some reading done, but mostly sleeping, as the lights still aren’t working, and the nights are long and quiet.

Your letters are coming through pretty regularly Mother – you have no idea how much I appreciate them. Gretch dear, yours are always wonderful. It certainly was a big relief to hear you got mine from Namur. I know how you must have worried.

Love,
Phil
