Dear mother,
This is the first chance I’ve had to write since our second battle. It’s already been broadcast over the air that the same units that took Saipan also landed on Tinian. The island is practically secured now and it won’t be long until we get a nice rest.
Don’t let this worry you, for I’m up and around and good as new, but I was wounded by hand grenades July thirtieth. I had pieces in both legs, right little finger, right arm and back, they were all minor wounds and will not leave scars. The reason this is in care of Roma is that I believe you are in a new place by now.[1] Hope everything is well at home, new or old place. I’ll write you a letter when I get a chance. Haven’t received mail for a couple of weeks but will get all back mail soon. Give all my love and again I’m alright and feeling good, so no need for worry. Till a bit later,
Your loving son
Everett

1. The move, referenced in earlier letters, has in fact taken place. Etta in now in Indianapolis, not Mooresville.
