Letter #17
I Did Have A Holiday Christmas

To “Mom & All”

Dear Mother + all,

I have received two of your letters in the past three days which is very good. You didn’t mention getting mine, so I’ll make this good.

I had nearly forgotten having my picture taken at the ceremony of the Purple Heart award, but I’m sure glad you received the picture. I can’t see how it can be very good because it was pouring down rain when it was taken and I was plenty wet. But if you liked it that’s all that counts.

The Indianapolis Star, 24 December 1944.

I hope that you received the flowers that I sent. I sure had counted on you getting them around Christmas. I did have a holiday Christmas and very good chow at dinner. I might say that things like that are more or less routine around here and I’m getting used to it. I’m not inferring that I’m changed, because they mean so much more that it’s hard to explain. I might put it that my main interests are at home. And from reports I believe they are better. I believe you understand. Little things like Pop + Ronny making candles, and him taking the devoted attention in Shirley and Joan. And you with the very nice Christmas I know you had.

Well now that I’ve said that, I say these pictures are a few of the boys + I in a kiddish mood. But I guess you can get a good laugh from them. It is quite a contrast to the kind of weather you are having.

I didn’t know what to think of all the baby’s around. When I get back it will be uncle this + uncle that. If Shirley’s baby is anything like her or his mother is well that will be plenty OK. And little Donna must be quite a cute little shaver.

Well before the develops into a book I better close. And for the new year I wish you all the happiness I can send.

Lots of love to all

Your loving son
Everett
