Dad had severe PTSD for years and decades after the war. Eventually went into a mental hospital in WV. After the mental hospital he spent several years wandering all over the country. Leaving his family with his wife who had been in the same Mental Hospital. However she went in first and came out first. Eventually he came to visit us in Galax VA where mother was working in a knitting mill as a seamstress. He stayed a few weeks and left again and again. Finally when mom became pregnant with a third daughter, Venus, he stayed. Some two or three decades later he went through all his war items and threw them all in the fire. In his late eighties or early nineties he dug out a final piece of shrapnel from his right calf. He died two weeks short of his 96 birthday from sepsis stemming from a gall stone blocking the gall bladder from functioning but allowing fesis to enter.
