Roy Adams was a late-war draftee, inducted into Marine Corps service in mid-1944. He attended boot camp at MCRD San Diego, and was part of the base service battalion for the first few months of his service. In January 1945, he was transferred to Camp Pendleton to join the 39th Replacement Draft, and several weeks later was on his way to the Fleet Marine Force.
Private Adams joined Charlie Company, 1/24 on April 10, 1945. He was assigned to the company’s mortar section, replacing one of the casualties suffered on Iwo Jima. During the summer months, Adams trained for the invasion of Japan, but would see no combat–he was ordered to the Fourth Marine Division’s MP company, and was on duty with them when the war ended. He would spend the rest of his service as a guard at the naval station in Bremerton, Washington.
Adams was discharged in early 1946; little else is known about his life.
