William Bailey joined Company B, 24th Marines on May 5, 1945. He trained as a replacement BAR gunner, but the war ended before he saw any combat.
When his regiment disbanded, Bailey served with H&S Company of the 17th Service Battalion for two months, then with the Post Service Battalion at Quantico. He was honorably discharged as a Private First Class in the fall of 1946.
