February 21, 1945 – a Japanese sniper kills or wounds most of a patrol from A/1/24 and their attached demolition squad, trapping the survivors overnight. According to Private Domenick Tutalo (HQ Co), Scally was the one who managed to eliminate the sniper.

Campaign Narrative

Our squad leader took us up toward the Quarry, and that's where this sniper just shot nine guys right out in the open – dead – before a rifleman named Scally got him.... We were stuck there the whole night.
Philip died on May 4, 1983, and is buried in Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township, Michigan.

  1. Philip a. Scally is my uncle. I’d love to hear any stories about him. He passed away when I was young. I never was able to ask him about his service. We vacationed with him. my aunt, and my cousins when I was little. I have fond memories of him. Thanks for any info anyone has. Jim
