Before joining battalion

On enlistment, attached to Platoon Leader’s Unit, Ninth Reserve District. Transferred to General Service Unit, Ninth Reserve District, on 23 April 1943. Boot camp at Parris Island with Fourth Recruit Battalion; outposted to Headquarters, Parris Island for service as recruit instructor.

Transferred to Charlie Company, First Battalion, 24th Marines at Camp Pendleton, California on 1 September 1943.
