Service & Campaigns
Before joining battalion

Boot camp at Parris Island with Second Recruit Battalion. Outposted to Radio Company, Signal Battalion, MCB Quantico, as student radio operator.

On 12 January 1942, transferred to Company E, The Training Center, MCB Quantico. On 21 April 1942, transferred to 25th Provisional Marine Company on post; on 29 April, detached to Marine Barracks, Naval Operating Base Iceland, as Private First Class. Sailed aboard USAT J. W. McAndrew and arrived Rejkavik in May 1942.

During 18 month tour, stood duty at Falcon Park Naval Ammunition Depot and US Naval Fuel Depot. On 16 December 1942, court-martialed for “failing to keep an alert watch,” sentenced to 6 weeks confinement and reduced to Private.

Returned to MCB Quantico on 1 January 1944. To H&S Company, Engineer Battalion Training Center in spring 1944.

Transferred, date unknown, to Replacement Battalion, Fleet Marine Force Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii. Assigned to First Battalion, 24th Marines on 18 September 1944.

Campaign Narrative

After leaving battalion

Transferred to 18 Service Battalion on 5 October 1945 for duty as truck driver. On 16 January 1946, returned to continental United States for reassignment.

From April 1946 to April 1947, stood guard duty at Camp Lejeune and Marine Barracks, Naval Station Norfolk. Discharged as a Private First Class “under honorable conditions” from Norfolk on 19 April 1947.
