Service & Campaigns
Boot camp at Parris Island with First Recruit Battalion. Outposted to Battery K, Fourth Battalion, 11th Marines (First Marine Division) on 8 April 1942. Transferred to Special Weapons Battery summer 1942.
Participated in the Guadalcanal campaign.
After episodes of poor health, returned to United States for treatment at US Naval Hospital Long Beach, CA, in summer 1943. Transferred to Marine Barracks, Navy Yard, NY on 14 July 1943 for duty with Guard Company through summer 1944. In July 1944, on rolls of 65th Replacement Battalion for deployment overseas.
Joined Baker Company, First Battalion, 24th Marines at Camp Maui on 18 September 1944.
