Before joining battalion

Boot camp at Parris Island with Second Recruit Battalion. Outposted to Signal Battalion, TC Camp Lejeune, NC, as student radio operator. (Instruction not completed).

Transferred to 57th Replacement Battalion, Camp Lejeune. On rolls as “straggler” as of 10 April; transferred to 59th Replacement Battalion for transit to Saipan.

Arrived and assigned to Casual Company, Second Marine Division, 11 July 1944.

Temporarily attached to A/1/24th Marines, Fourth Marine Division, on 12 July 1944.
