Before joining battalion

Boot camp at Parris Island with Fourth Recruit Battalion. Outposted to Barracks Detachment, Navy Yard Boston, Massachusetts on 2 July 1943. Duty at Boston through spring of 1944; transferred to 49th Replacement Draft for transit overseas.

Assigned duty with Third Provisional Marine Detachment, Maui, summer of 1944. Joined Baker Company, First Battalion, 24th Marines at Camp Maui on 30 September 1944.
