My Darling,

Well, today is the day I guess we’ll always remember. The end of the war with Japan. I thought I’d be jumping and hollering and raising the devil, but I don’t feel any different. If anything, I feel sort of sad. I keep thinking of the guys that can’t celebrate with us. The guys with no legs or arms. Nola, I have so much to be thankful for. I’ve thanked God that I am still alive and too that I have the sweetest and bravest wife in the world. I love you, Nola.

Have a big parade & review tomorrow. Better hit the sack as I have to shake a leg in the morning.

No mail, Baby. See you tomorrow.

All my love
Bill

  1. Stunning response, surely seems to indicate the level of shock, and probably wariness about it finally having come to a conclusion. I hope Bill and Nola had many great years after the war.

    1. My father , Floyd Lamberson and Uncle Henry Parker both with this company. I was told by my uncle that my Dad was behind enemy lines due to shell shock. Both my Dad and Uncle came home, unfortunately lost my Dad to cancer 33 years ago.

    2. Chuck, Dad and Mom were married for 65 years, both passing at age 90, Dad in 2009 and Mom in 2011. Thanks for your thoughtful note.

  2. Thanks for the post on your website, Geoff. Hope all is well.
